Kalsiyiyum Karbonat

Kalsit, kimyasal formülü CaCO3 olan kristalleşmiş kalsiyum karbonat. Saydam, beyaz, sarı, rustik yeşil ve mavimsi renkte olabilir. Sertliği 3, özgül ağırlığı 2.71'dir. Soğuk ve seyreltik hidroklorik asitte (tuz ruhu) şiddetli bir köpürme ile ayrışır. Çakı ile çizilir. CO2'li sularda çözünerek Ca(HCO3)2 yapar.

Nadiren erüptif kayalardan özellikle pegmatitlerde ilksel olarak bulunur. Genellikle sekonder bir mineraldir. Doğada bolca bulunur.Genellikle karbonatlı sedimanter kayaların (ör:kireçtaşları) ve mermerlerin ana bileşenidir. Çeşitli şekillerde işlenerek boya, kâğıt, plastik sektöründe dolgu malzemesi olarak kullanılır. Plastik sektöründe kullanılan kalsitler ise; kaplı ve kapsız olmak üzere 2 çeşittir.

Türkiye'de Niğde ilinde çıkarılan Kalsit madeni oldukça parlak olmasından dolayı ticari değeri yüksektir

Kalsit ya da bir başka adıyla Kalsiyum Karbonat (CaCO3), cam parıltılı, saydam, kolay kırılabilen, sertliği 3 ve özgül ağırlığı 2,6 – 2,8 olan iri kristalli mermerdir. Kırma , öğütme ve seperasyon (sınıflandırma) işlemlerinden geçerek mikronize edilir ve sektörüne göre doğal öğütülmüş olarak ya da doğal öğütülmüş ve mikronize edilmiş kalsit bir de kaplama işleminden geçirilmek suretiyle, genellikle dolgu malzemesi (filler) olarak, çeşitli sektörlerin kullanımına sunulur.

Mikronize kalsit, yazı tabı kâğıtları, duvar kâğıtları ve kartonların üretiminde selüloza % 15–30 oranında katılarak kullanılmaktadır. Yüksek beyazlıkta olması, ucuzluğu ve kâğıda kazandırdığı diğer teknik özelliklerden dolayı son 10 yıl içerisinde Avrupa’dan başlayıp tüm dünyada kaolen’in yerini alarak kağıt sektörüne girmiştir. Kâğıt sektöründe daha az selüloz ve daha az optik beyazlatıcı tüketimi sağlayarak çevreye de ciddi katkılarda bulunmaktadır. Yine boya sektöründe, inşaat boyalarında iç ve dış kaplamada su bazlı boya sisteminde %25-30 oranında kalsit kullanılmakta ve titanyum dioksit tüketimini azaltarak maliyetleri düşürücü yönde etki etmektedir. Micronize kalsit, plastik sektöründe, rengi, kimyasal saflığı ve ucuzluğu gibi nedenlerle, bir çok plastik mamul üretiminde, özellikle PVC boru, profil, lambri, kablo vb. sektörlerde, gerek doğal öğütülmüş, gerekse kaplanmış olarak, yoğun biçimde kullanılmaktadır. Mikronize kalsit, ayrıca, yapıştırıcılar, ciklet, yem sanayi, diş macunu, seramik, halı tabanı ve muşamba, sünger, kauçuk vb. sektörlerde de kullanılmaktadır.
